Solar: Clean, quiet, reliable electrical power

Solar panels were invented at Bell Labs in the 1950's. Cells within the panels convert sunlight directly to electricity via the photovoltaic effect. The process of generating solar electrical power is 100% emission free. Because they have almost no moving parts, solar power systems are virtually silent and require little maintenance other than cleaning.

Over the last fifty years the technology has been refined and improved. The result is that today's solar panels are highly affordable and have an anticipated lifetime of 30 years or more.
